What’s New @ Storm

November officially marked the end of our fall honeymoon, with the last tastes of summer, and jumping right into winter. We have had several snowfalls and temperatures are hovering right around freezing. But we can’t complain, our first killing frost was the night of November 18th! 

Well, I never thought we would be entering a video contest so soon in our company journey! Rootree’s RT Foundation announced their mini contest mid-October and we had just a few short weeks to come up with a creative idea and bring it to life. As good ideas usually do, this one came to me late at night when I was brushing my teeth and getting ready for bed. With the prompt “what captures the essence of what you do and what makes your business unique?”, it seemed natural to showcase the journey of our seaweed from storm to package. 

Flowers have long been associated with death and war, even dating back to Roman and Greek mythology, but the iconic red poppy we see today came from WWI.

If you’ve ever been pregnant, or been around a pregnant person, you know how tiring it is to make a baby. Well, it’s the same for plants. Producing flowers and seeds takes a lot of energy. Ultimately, plants want to pass down their genetic material but have to balance the energy they spend on blooming and seed production vs the energy it takes to remain alive. This means that, generally, plants will flower in two situations: either when they are thriving and have enough plenty of energy reserves, or when they are doing so poorly they likely won’t survive another season and produce seed as one last hurrah. As gardeners, we like our plants to thrive and show us how happy they are. So, what can you do to get your plants to bloom brighter and longer?

Pollinator gardens have been increasing in popularity, and for good reason! Insects play many roles in maintaining our environment like pollinating many of our food crops, dispersing seeds and returning nutrients to the soil by decomposing plant debris. Keeping insect populations strong is essential to maintaining our diverse ecosystems. So, what can you do to help? Pollinator gardens, no matter how small, are an excellent way to give your local insects a helping hand.

It’s no secret that home-grown vegetables are tastier and healthier than what you can find in stores, but when all you have is a tiny little garden or balcony, is it worth all the effort? Absolutely! Even a sprinkle of fresh basil on a dish can make a difference. When space is limited, every inch matters, and we have a few tips that can help you make the most of your small garden plot.

Some amazing ideas come to you out of the blue. Like being hit by a lightning bolt. Others just kind of slowly bubble up to the surface, like cooking up a tasty stew. Storm Organic Plant Nutrition and Seafeed definitely fall into the stew category.
